Summary:

The Respiratory Assistant/student (RTA) will assess patients for appropriate types of treatments and therapies for patients ranging from young pediatric to geriatric. The Respiratory Assistant/student will work under the direction of a Respiratory Therapist. This position is responsible for monitoring the care plan and equipment and reporting back to the Respiratory Therapist. This position will be supervised by the Team Leader/Charge Respiratory Therapist, Respiratory Care Manager and Critical Care Service Line Director.

Education and Experience:

• BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
• High school diploma/GED required.
• Enrolled in degreed program specific to discipline

Responsibilities:

• Provide evaluation of and care for patients with respiratory insufficiencies consistent with student scope of practice.
• Administer medications and treatments based on patient outcomes, under appropriate supervision.
• Deliver and assess patient response to ordered therapy.
• Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition.
• Provide patient education for diseases, medications, and treatment.
• Assess patient for appropriate type and frequency of treatment and develops a plan of care based on diagnosis.
• Implement and monitor patient care plan and equipment.
• Monitor, record and communicate patient condition.
• Perform advanced respiratory care modalities.
• Evaluate respiratory practice, administration of medications, and treatment based on patient outcome.
• Educate the patient and family about the health condition and provides information about community support groups and other available programs.
• Respond to emergency resuscitation team code.
